A Grand Bahama man charged with murder has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Damien Sterling appeared before Justice Andrew Forbes on Tuesday.

He was initially charged with murdering Jamal Russell, who was choked to death during an altercation three years ago.

At the proceedings, Sterling decided to avoid a trial and take a plea deal for the lesser manslaughter charge.

K Brian Hanna represented Sterling. Ms Sheanda Rolle of the Attorney General’s Office was the prosecutor.

Justice Forbes set the sentence hearing for November 14.
