BLTA fields two more teams for international competition

ON the heels of the junior Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup teams, the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association has fielded two more teams for international competition.

This week the World Juniors is taking place in El Salvador where the best in the under-14 division are competing.

The girls’ team, coached by Marion Bain, lost their opening match yesterday to the Dominican Republic 3-0. In singles, Kaylah Fox lost 6-3, 6-3 and Briana Houlgrave also lost 6-0, 0-6, 6-2, while in doubles, Fox and Houlgrave lost 6-2, 6-1. The other member of the team is Caitlyn Pratt.

The boys’ team, coached by Ricardo Demeritte, is composed of Patrick Mactaggart, Synaj Watkins and Dylan Sykes. The boys lost to Costa Rica 3-0 in their opening game as well.

Today, the girls are scheduled to play Costa Rica, while the boys will take on the Dominican Republic.
