AFTER flying high on Monday with their first victory, The Bahamas got grounded with their third loss, this time against the host Dominican Republic yesterday on day four of the World Baseball Softball Confederation’s Under-15 Baseball Panam Tournament.

The Dominican Republic took advantage of their home field in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic as they beat the Bahamas 12-3. It was a game that head coach Albert Cartwright admitted that they blew too many opportunities to put up more runs on the scoreboard.

“It was a tough loss,” said Cartwright, who was assisted by coaches Geron Sands, Pedro Dean Jr and Donovan Cox. “I think we had a lot of chances to score some runs. Unfortunately today, we didn’t get those hits that we needed.”

That’s why they play the game call baseball, he stated.

“We put ourselves in a position to score runs and we were just one hit away from scoring the runs,” he pointed out. “Baseball goes like that some times. But tomorrow, we will be right back at it.”

The Bahamas, managed by Avard Hart, will now prepare to play its final game in the round robin today against the winless Argentina, who sits at the bottom of Group A with an 0-3 record.

“I feel good. I feel good about our team,” Cartwright stated. “We don’t necessary look at the tournament they (Argentina) are having. We prepare the same way to go out and play our game.”

Team Bahamas is made up Jordan Archer, Chrishad Thompson, Malique Israel, Khyale Watkins, Antwon Bain, Javan Smith, Jensynn Albury, Kaizen Dorsett, Nathan Fernander, Thaddeus Russell, Amari Knowles, Pedro Baillou, Aaron Taylor, Mario Dean, Caiden Martin, Ryan Wood, Liam Eneas, Tyler Knowles, Sean Forbes and Kamdynn Miller.

Secretary General Theodore Sweeting is representing the Bahamas Baseball Association as the head of the delegation, while Martin ‘Pork’ Burrows is one of the umpires officiating at the tournament.
