A MAN was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay a woman $3,000 in compensation after his dog attacked and injured her on Sumner Street last month.

Ricardo Hinsley Jr, 42, allowed his dog to attack Gweneth Rolle near his home on September 4.

Hinsley pleaded guilty to causing harm by animal before Deputy Chief Magistrate Shaka Serville.

Should Hinsley fail to pay his fine or compensate the complainant, he risks a six-month prison term.

The court also ordered that Hinsley's dog be put down.

Hinsley is scheduled to return to court on October 13 to provide proof of payment.

Inspector Cordero Farrington prosecuted the case.
