Donna Lauretta Duncombe

unknown - unknown

A Christian Celebration and Final Rites for Chief Meteorologist, DONNA LAURETTA DUNCOMBE of Westward Villas, Cable Beach and formerly of South Bahamia, Freeport, Grand Bahama will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Salem Union Baptist Church, Taylor Street, Nassau at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Dr. C. W. Saunders, Dr. Keith Russell and Dr. R. E. Cooper, Jr., and assisted by The Ministers of The Bahamas Baptist Union Of Churches.

A graduate of the Oakes Field Primary School, Queen’s College and Florida State University, Donna was an extraordinarily accomplished woman, and received the designation of being the first female Meteorologist in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. She migrated to Freeport in 1989 to take up a position at the Freeport Weather Office and administrated a small staff of meteorological personnel who provided quality weather services for aviation, marine and general public facilities remaining there until that office closed in December 2009.

Donna was a talented artist, cook and musician, and was a church organist providing musical assistance to the Baptist and Episcopalian denominations for several decades. Her love was Junkanoo and her last affiliation in Junkanoo was with the Kingdom Culture Junkanoo group in Grand Bahama - whose leadership has undertaken to use the avenue of Junkanoo to spread the Word of God through this cultural expression.

Her remains will be interred in Lakeview Memorial Gardens with her father, Wendal Duncombe, who predeceased her in June 2000.
