Vashti Una Albury was born to Harold and Gladys Albury on Man-O’-War Cay on February 16th 1938. At a very young age she displayed her sacrificial willingness by being a devoted caregiver for her grandmother Patience and her niece Winnie, as Vashti’s sister, Wilhelmena, passed away when Winnie was seven months old. Vashti also took excellent care of her parents, Harold and Gladys. She gave her heart to the Lord on March 28th 1954, while Brother Willie Farrington was visiting Man-O’-War having Gospel meetings at the schoolhouse. Vashti taught school here from 1952 – 1963. She fell in love with Harcourt Thompson, and they were married on November 16th 1963. Harcourt and Vashti were blessed with one loving daughter, Ena Joy on September 10th 1967. Vashti returned back to teaching school when a teacher was needed from 1977 – 1980. She helped her sister, Patricia, at Patsy Lee’s gift shop and managed Island Department Store. She also helped her daughter, Ena, tremendously at Ena’s Place Restaurant. Vashti was always a very hard worker, contributing to the family’s needs, but never too busy to help in the upbringing of her nephews and nieces. She would later call Fred, Junea, Amanda, Micah and Eli her “grandchildren”. Vashti went above and beyond the call of duty, whether it was family, church or work.

Over the years Vashti was challenged with numerous health issues. But on October 5th 2013, she suffered her first stroke. Later on in April 2014, she had another stroke. This was followed by a lot of complications, which resulted in taking her to Princess Margaret Hospital in August, 2014. After three weeks of wonderful care there, she returned home for just three short weeks. Even during her times of this illness, Vashti still took joy in spending time with her little nieces and nephews. She was flown back to Princess Margaret Hospital on October 20th 2014 where she underwent surgery the following day. During both her trips to Nassau, her loving daughter, Ena, never ceased to give her mother her undivided attention and love. Vashti’s niece Minerva also devoted her love and time to Vashti and Ena during these difficult times. After a long battle due to complications, she went home to be with her Lord about 2:00pm, on January 1st 2015. Words spoken by her loving husband when told about her Home going…
