IT took her fifth and final Olympic Games in 2000 in Sydney, Australia for Pauline Davis-Thompson to ascend the podium to finally secure her elusive individual track and field medal on the world’s biggest sporting stage.
THE Bahamas has a rich history of success in relay events and since the “Golden Girls” rose to prominence in the late 1990s, have been one of the leaders in the field.
WHEN Pauline Davis Thompson celebrated her relay team’s gold-winning performance at the 2000 Olympic Games, she didn’t believe her home country would host a major athletic event in her lifetime.
BAHAMIAN athletes are still to win a medal in the London 2012 Olympic Games. But they are poised for success in two of the last great Olympic competitions this week - the Women’s 4 x 100m Relay and the Men’s 4 x 400m Relay.
