Candidate turned crimefighter

EDITOR, The Tribune.

AS I was catching up on my reading this week, I came across a story in which Ben Albury was cast in the light of a crime fighter. I have heard Mr Albury leading the oil exploration charge in recent weeks.

The Tribune's article of March 19, 2012 reports that Mr Albury assisted an off duty defence force officer in restraining an alleged criminal who had either robbed or was about to rob the Chinese Embassy.

I am told that Mr Albury, on seeing that the off duty officer needed assistance, instructed his campaign manager to turn his campaign bus around and assist the officer. Albury was able to restrain the alleged intruder by using some of the Martial Arts training that he acquired when he was younger.

On any level, the efforts of Mr Albury should be commended. This is of special interest to me because Ben Albury is a political candidate for the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) for Montagu in the next general elections. I am also told that the incident occurred in Montagu, where Albury is a resident. Let me add that any candidate putting his life on the line for the safety of his constituents is a remarkable act.

While I would not go on a limb and encourage all Bahamians to resort to this action because of the obvious risk to personal injury, I would ask all citizens to call the police if they see a criminal act being committed.

Mr Albury, you are a "Super Hero" and your split minute decision to assist someone in need speaks to your true character. Good luck, sir, in all your endeavours.
