FREEPORT - Local institute Terreve College signed an articulation agreement with a US university that will make a number of new courses available to Bahamian students.

Terreve president Terrence Archer said he is very happy Kaplan University decided to help Bahamians improve their skills and advance themselves.

He said Terreve College is committed to contributing to the growth and development of the country through education.

Thanks to the agreement, students attending Terreve will be able to transfer to Kaplan University at any point in the local institute's two-year programme.

"I want to thank Kaplan for what we hope will be a long lasting productive relationship," he said.

Tere Traub, Kaplan executive director, said the university is an accredited institution with 11 campuses in the United States and 70,000 students - many of whom are online students.

She said the partnership with Terreve is an opportunity to extend their reach outside the United States.

"We formed an articulation with Terreve so students can continue and expand their education, and students in the two-year associate degree programme can easily go on to start taking classes at Kaplan," she said.

"Students taking classes would able to stay here and continue with their jobs and family obligations, but receive education and pursue associates, bachelors or masters degrees if they continue with Kaplan.

Ms Traub said Kaplan offers 170 programmes, among them accounting, education, and criminal justice.

The university also makes price reduction options available to students, and there are currently discussions about offering a scholarship to a Terreve student.
