Veteran educator releases new book: 'Celebrating Christmas'

RETIRED educator Inez Peet released her latest book of poetry in celebration of the Christmas season. Mrs Peet, who was awarded the British Empire Medal for her service to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, captures the true spirit of Christmas in the Bahamas through her creative work.

“Many parents are challenged at Christmas-time, as well as on other occasions, when their children will be expecting some kind of gift. The excitement and pleasure of receiving a gift is not unique to children, as gifts are appreciated by individuals of all ages. The significance of giving a Christmas gift provides an excellent opportunity for Christian parents to pass on the true meaning of the giving and receiving of gifts in general and Christmas gifts in particular,” said Ms Peet.

“Parents can learn a lesson from the words of Hellen Keller when she declared that, ‘knowledge is power’, as they consider what is an appropriate gift for their child. The Christmas season is a great opportunity for sharing with our off-springs the significance of the ‘Babe of Bethlehem’ and the ‘Christ of Christmas’. As we shop around for gifts this Christmas, we will most likely be attracted to expensive electronic gadgets, fashionable clothing and fine jewellery; whatever your choice may be, the printed word encapsuled in a book is well worth consideration,” said Ms Peet.

She currently serves as vice patron of the Girls’ Brigade and Sunday School teacher at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Ms Peet is a mother, grandmother and wife of Deacon Arthur Peet. She enjoys travelling with her family, gardening and religious music, in addition to writing. Her passion is helping people to help themselves.

“The author has captured the real spirit and meaning of Christmas through her inspirational poems. They bring out the Christmas story as foretold by God’s prophets and angels. An excellent resource for children’s activities and makes good reading for all ages,” said C. Jacqueline Smith, a retired teacher.
