A 23-year-old woman is dead and two men are in hospital after an horrific car crash.

It happened around 3.25am yesterday on Carmichael Road.

Police say a blue 1997 Volkswagen, occupied by two people, was travelling east along Carmichael Road when it collided with a Chevy Avalanche Jeep, travelling west.

The impact caused the Chevy to flip over several times before landing on its side.

Both vehicles received extensive damage and fire fighters were called to the scene to use the ‘jaws of life’ to remove the female passenger of the Volkswagen.

She died of her injuries at the scene. The two male drivers were taken to hospital where they are listed in stable condition.

Police have not officially identified the victim but sources say she is Rishawn Smith of Bellot Road.

Officer in Charge of the Traffic Division, Superintendent Ken Strachan, said speed was a factor in the accident.

He also confirmed that the driver of the Chevy was a police officer but said he was off duty at the time of the accident.

Supt Strachan appealed to members of the public to slow down during the holiday season.

“Please be careful when you are on the roads. Do not speed and do not drink and drive. Abide by the rules governing the street and be aware of your environment at all times,” he said.

“Be focused on the road and slow down. The police force remains committed to arresting those who refuse to abide by the law in our efforts to enforce the rules of the road.”

Rishawn became the country’s 43rd traffic fatality.

Meanwhile, police are still appealing to the driver of the vehicle involved in a traffic accident that left a 13-year-old boy dead to come forward.

It happened around 8.30pm on Wednesday on Robinson Road in the area of Miami Street.

Police say the teen was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by a 2000 Honda Accord. He was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

However, police say before officers arrived on the scene an angry mob attacked the occupants of the vehicle, stabbing two of them and causing a third man to flee.

The two men were taken to hospital and treated for their injuries.

Supt Strachan said the vehicle was also completely destroyed. He is urging the third man to turn himself into police so investigations can move forward.

People need to stop throwing around Jeep...Jeep is a brand name. The Chevy Avalanche is not a Jeep...it's not even an SUV...it's a truck. For what it's worth.

@MyBahamianPeople...I wholeheartedly agree...RIP and slow down...guess I should have said that...my remarks were not on the story, but strictly on the editorial content and accuracy of their statement. Chevy, Avalanche and Jeep are all trademarked brand names in this instance. One needs to be careful when claiming something is a Chevy Avalanche Jeep. I am sure neither Chevy or Jeep would be happy with that...think the worst case of this I have seen had to be a BTC advert promoting a sweepstakes/giveaway of a Ford Escape Jeep a few years back, complete with all the posters and promotional material. It's one thing to use it in casual conversation, another to misrepresent it in print and advertizing...just saying...

I am so scared when I read about all this car crashes. I was recently at a http://www.donatecarusa.com/">car donations event and the people were talking about the same thing.

I think that this happened because of the irresponsability of the drivers. I think that people should drive alone a car, only after they have enough experience. The people who work for driving companies like the http://www.hdsdrivers.com">HDS Drivers, have enough experience and I am sure that they know how to avoid an accident.
