$100,000 theft trial delayed

A FORMER armoured car paymaster’s trial for theft of more than $100,000 has been delayed by more than a year due to late disclosure of a document to the defence.

Michelle Bowe, formerly of Armoured Car Services, will now stand trial on September 8, 2014, instead of in January when she is facing multiple charges of stealing by reason of employment.

In yesterday’s status hearing before Justice Roy Jones, the prosecution in the matter revealed that all revelant documents concerning the case were forwarded to the defence.

However, defending attorney Ramona Farquharson-Seymour told the court that he had only received the 178-page document minutes to 5pm Monday evening. He said that experts in accounting matters required more than six weeks to go through the document.

She said March would be best for a thorough review of the document as she asked for an adjournment in the matter, citing that the prosecution had failed to disclose the document despite an order by the court being made in August.

Justice Jones, having looked back on the history of the meetings, agreed but said that there were no other available dates in 2013 for trial.

The only other convenient date, the judge said, was September 8, 2014, which was then set as the new trial date.
