AN EXECUTIVE official at the Airport Authority was served with a criminal summons yesterday ordering him to appear before a magistrate to answer to a charge of assault.

Deepak Bhatnagar, Financial Adviser to the Board of Airport Authority, was served with the summons by police at around 4pm, which noted that he was being privately prosecuted for allegedly assaulting a former female employee on January 3 of this year.

The assault is alleged to have taken place outside the airport after the worker allowed a taxi cab driver to park in the financial adviser’s designated parking spot.

Bhatnagar’s arraignment will take place before Magistrate Guillimina Archer in Court 10 of the new Magistrate’s Court Complex on July 24.

What exactly is this "private prosecution" procedure that apparently attends in the Bahamas? I am unfamiliar with any such procedure in any other country.
