POLICE are investigating the events surrounding the discovery of a severely decomposed body in Abaco late Sunday evening.

According to reports, the body of a male was found by Marsh Harbour locals who were wild hog hunting in a bushy area known as Bustick Bight.

Superintendent Noel Curry, Officer in Charge of the Abaco District, said police are still unsure of the circumstances surrounding the death and have no identity at this time.

“Police got reports that a body was seen in bushes by some people who were hunting wild hogs and swimming. They were alerted to the body after they noticed some buzzards flying low to the ground. They assumed it was a dead hog but on further inspection they discovered a human male wrapped in a green and white sheet,” he said.

“They came to the Marsh Harbour police station and took officers to the scene. The body was so badly decomposed that we are unable to say at this point if it was a homicide. Buzzards had a go at the body also so we will have to perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.”

Superintendent Curry said police are speaking with the family of a male who was reported missing sometime ago to possibly get an identification. He said police do not believe the body could have come from the Haitian vessel that was intercepted in waters near Marsh Harbour last week.

Officers from Grand Bahama went to Marsh Harbour yesterday and are assisting police with their investigations.
