When is a closed road not a closed road?

GOVERNMENT officials and Baha Mar executives are remaining tight lipped on why Skyline Drive, which was scheduled to permanently close two days ago, remains open.

The road was scheduled to close on July 16 to make room for the expansion of the golf course that currently runs on either side of Prospect Ridge.

Senior vice-president of government and external affairs at Baha Mar, Robert “Sandy” Sands, said the road will still be closed, but could not say when.

He said the Ministry of works would have the details.

But when contacted, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Renward Wells, also failed to say when the road would close.

He agreed that the closure would take place, as stated in the heads of agreement between the government and Baha Mar, but he could not explain the delay.

Mr Wells said the Minister of Works, Philp “Brave” Davis, would issue a statement on the matter later in the day.

Up to press time, The Tribune did not receive any such statement.

When the road is finally closed, Skyline Lakes will transform into two cul-de-sacs and traffic will be re-routed along the new Corridor 7, which is the two-lane road linking John F Kennedy Drive to West Bay Street.

Corridor 7 will be open to Lake Cunningham residents only, but the entire road is expected to be opened by the end of September or the beginning of October, the government previously said.
