Hail struck New Providence this afternoon with chunks of ice raining down across Nassau.

The Meteorology Department has warned of a continual rain and thunderstorms for the rest of the week - mostly across the northwest Bahamas.

The Met Department has attributed the wet weather to warm tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico which is “helping to enhance” shower and thunderstorm activity across the northwest.

“Meanwhile a stationary front north of the islands will push through the northwest Bahamas early Saturday,” the Met Department said. “The front will stall cross the central Bahamas early Sunday with the tail end lingering across Eleuthera and Abaco through Wednesday.”

For the remainder of Friday, isolated thunderstorms will persist mainly across the northwest Bahamas and at night, weather will be mostly cloudy and humid at night with widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, the Met Department reported.

Its report said next Thursday will be partly cloudy and very warm with isolated showers and thunderstorm across the extreme northern islands, while the Nighttime will be mostly fair with isolated showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm.

Sunday, partly sunny with isolated showers with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms particularly in the vicinity of the frontal boundary and night will see more isolated showers and a slight chance of a stray thunderstorm.

A mix of sun and clouds will warm Monday with spotty showers and isolated thunderstorm mainly in vicinity of the Frontal Boundary. Night will be mostly fair with brief passing showers.

Tuesday will also be warmed by a mix of sun and clouds and warm during the day with isolated showers and thunderstorms. It will be mostly fair at night with isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly in the central Bahamas.

Wednesday will see variable cloudiness and warm weather during the day with intervals of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. It will be partly cloudy at night with passing showers and a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms.

if you watch the weather pattern over New Providence seems like we gonna get a serious weather activity soon. These thick dark heavy clouds form over the south western tip of the island every day almost then move towards the south central part of the island where the remain stationary for hours. If you look carefully you can see funnels trying to form in these systems..and i guess one day it will happen..tornado? over south central new providence?
