Airport work on time and on budget

DURING a tour of phase two of the Sir Lynden Pindling International Airport re-development project on Friday, Minister of Transport and Aviation the Glenys Hanna-Martin said work is proceeding within budget and on-pace.

Reiterating Tourism Ministry Obie Wlichcombe's comments during his contribution to the Budget Debate this week, Mrs Hanna-Martin said the airport redevelopment is just part of the government's plan to create a new tourism environment in the Bahamas.

"I am very excited about the progress," Mrs Hanna-Martin said. "This is only one aspect of what we intend to do.

"This airport is just one major component of that united focus that we have as a government."

She said while there are still a number of issues to deal with at the airport, it is already a monument to Sir Lynden's legacy.

"The airport has many issues and many dimensions and he (Sir Lynden Pindling) was cognisant of all those dimensions," Minister Hanna-Martin added. "He brought that to the table with tremendous energy and what you see unfolding is symbolic of what he had set out to do."
