POLICE have recovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen electronics and clothing after breaking a major theft ring in Eastern New Providence.

Four teenagers - two boys, two girls, ranging in age from 17 to 19 - were taken into custody for questioning.

Superintendent Ismella Davis, officer in charge of the Eastern Division, said police learned of the ring after a break-in on Joe Farrington Road.

"Shortly after 11pm on Thursday we got a call that an alarm had been activated. When officers responded, they met with the home owner whose house had been broken into along with several other residents from the area.

"They provided us with the information that began our investigation," she said.

Supt Davis said a number of items were recovered, including laptops, televisions, video games, home theatre systems and a great deal of clothing - mostly shoes and caps.

"We estimate the value to be around 10 to 15 thousand dollars.

"After we broke this ring, we were able to return the items to the owners and clear up several matters throughout the eastern area."

Supt Davis sent out a warning to would-be thieves yesterday, as well as those who would consider buying stolen goods.

"To the public, you know the cost of these items. Once someone comes to you selling them cheaper than you know, do not purchase them and call the police.

"If you are found in possession of a stolen item, you will be charged. To residents in the east, continue to monitor your property and ensure your items are properly marked," she said.

"To anyone thinking of stealing, there is no haven for criminals in the east. Once you are caught you will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law."
