Meacher 'Pain' Major

MEACHER 'Major Pain' Major's bid for the NABA super featherweight title came to a crushing end in the second round against Logan 'Cotton' McGuinness on Saturday night.

In the main event before a near sellout crowd at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga on the Hennessey Sports and United Promotions' "See Thee Rise" card, Major suffered a devastating second round loss as the Canadian successfully defended his title to remain undefeated at 17-0 with 8 KOs.

The fight came to a halt in two minutes and 45 seconds. Not only was the title at stake but as a result of pulling off the victory, McGuinness is now guaranteed a mandatory Commonwealth Super Featherweight shot at Liam Walsh's championship belt.

Picking up the loss, Major's record dropped to 20-5-1 with 17 KOs.

According to the fight report from Canada, the bout started off at a quick pace as both fighters tried to establish their jabs early on.

Major reportedly caught McGuinness with several hard combinations but the champion responded with some devastating combinations of his own.

Midway through the round, McGuinness badly hurt Major with a hard right hand that locked up his knees along the ropes.

Near the end of the round, it was reported that McGuinness dropped an already dazed Major with a hard straight right hand. Major was able to get back to his feet by eight but was clearly hurt. McGuinness had Major trapped on the ropes in serious trouble. However, he ran out of time as the round ended.

However, nobody could hear the bell because of the noise from the crowd so the action continued several seconds after the round as McGuinness continued to pound away on Major.

As the second round got started, it was reported that McGuinness got cut over his left eye as both fighters stood toe to toe exchanging punches.

Major was swinging wildly just to survive while McGuinness was swinging trying to end the fight.

As the round progressed, it was reported that McGuinness once again had Major staggered and in serious trouble. Major swung with everything he had trying to keep McGuinness off of him but it was to no avail as the champion cut through Major's barrage and smashed him back to the ropes hurt and out on his feet.

Eventually Major slumped back in his own corner where the referee had to wave off the fight. Major was unavailable for comments up to press time last night.
