Met office warns of strong winds, dangerous lightning and heavy showers

A Department of Meteorology statement has warned of continued showers for the remainder of the afternoon and into the evening.

Across the northwest and central Bahamas, showers and thunderstorm activity will persist but “gradually decrease” this evening.

The Department also sent out a warning of potential flooding for that area.

“Isolated periods of heavy showers or thunderstorms are likely to result in localised flooding in the northwest Bahamas,” the statement read.

Cloudy skies with “pockets of showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly across the northwest Bahamas,” are also to be expected.

Seas are one to three feet over open water and winds are east to southeast at 10 knots or less but “occasionally light and variable at times.”

Boaters can expect “gusty winds and higher seas in the vicinity of the heavy showers or thunderstorms,” the Department said.

In the southeast Bahamas weather is party cloudy and warm this afternoon with a slight chance of an isolated shower.

Later tonight, weather will be “mostly cloudy with few passing showers.”

Seas in the southeast are two to four feet over open waters and winds are easterly at 10 to 15 knots.

Weather across the Bahamas tomorrow will remain cloudy with showers and isolated thunderstorms continuing to diminish.

Into next Monday and Tuesday, the weather should be a little drier and the clouds less dense, compared to this week, before the chance of rain increases again.
