A vanishing beach

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Passing Saunders Beach driving west unamazed as it was reasonable to agree with the allegations of then Opposition MP Jerome Fitzgerald that with a storm the beach reclamation would be wiped out and it only took Sandy seemingly a few hours and it was a done deal.

The beach close to the $246,000 toilet is gone as Jerome Fitzgerald predicted.

Hope the Hon Earl Deveaux will retract all the rash statements he made when this was an issue; a hope that will never be realised.

One of the newspapers carried today Saturday the flooding at Nirvana Beach out west – here is a perfect example of bad Town Planning – no form of residential development should ever have been given permits on land which is at sea level with no sea protection. It is irresponsible Town Planning decisions of this nature that affects the cost of Catastrophic Insurance and places human life in grave dangers when a hurricane happens.

There might not be a chance to do anything on New Providence but we would be well advised not to permit any residential or commercial building less than 500 feet from high water mark and all buildings should be raised at least six-eight feet above the highest high water mark, vertically.
