After months of setbacks due to inadequate facilities, one local boxing club is finally back on track and looking forward to getting back into the ring against some of the top amateur clubs around the country.

The Carmichael Knockout Boxing Club, led by Head Coach Andre Seymour has taken up the mandate developing amateur boxers at the youth level.

Seymour said it was the inspiration for his club’s series of tournaments dubbed “The New Generation”.

The club will hosted its first tournament of the year last weekend and will host its second, November 10, which will feature 10 bouts on the card.

Seymour said his club plans to compete against the best of other clubs, beginning in the second week of Champion Amateur Boxing Club’s L Garth Wright Golden Gloves.

“Our first show went extremely well, the Pinewood Club came down and we had a series of great matches and now that we have things rolling now we really want to host one show every month,” Seymour said, “The club deals with kids from aged 7-17 and thats what it is all about, the younger fighters and them getting an opportunity to showcase their skills at the local stage and prepare them for the international stage.”

A highly regarded coach at the local and international level, Seymour applauded the development efforts of clubs around the country, particularly those in Inagua, Grand Bahamas and Abaco.

“We had a setback with the state of the gym, our lighting and fixtures but now everything is in place and ready to go. The guys have been training harder than ever and have been train for longer time periods so we are really beginning to see the growth and development of of these fighters,” Seymour said.

“We have a lot of talent here in these young boxers and it is up to the coaches and clubs around the country to ensure that we do the right thing by them and help their development like the generation before did with us.”
