Article on BEC salaries was cowardly

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I would like to address the cowardice manner in which the story regarding overtime for BEC employees on September 19, 2012 in The Tribune was addressed. The article was beyond careless in the way the information was displayed; putting the lives of all employees at the Corporation in danger as they can now be targeted by criminals. Salaries of employees anywhere are private and confidential.

Not only did the article breach the confidentiality of the employees at BEC but it also calls into question the purpose of any Information disseminated by The Tribune. Is it to create sensationalism without regard to the possible affect it may have on the livelihood of subjects and their families or to produce content that affects positive changes in the community along with providing responsible information to its readers?

Editor, going forward I would like to impress upon you and editors of all periodicals to use more tact when "telling stories". You have been charged with a great responsibility in providing information to the public and with that responsibility comes great power. No matter what information is "given" to you, you are empowered as a human being firstly, to make a conscious decision how to present that information or if to present it at all. It Is my hope that employees everywhere will never experience what employees at BEC will experience as a result of the gutless article with no author.

I also hope that the integrity of The Tribune and the monies collected by them are worth any backlash employees at the corporation may incur.
