THE actions of FNM leader Dr Hubert Minnis and opposition MPs yesterday were deemed “unfortunate” by Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly Dion Smith.

Contacted for comment after Dr Minnis was named, suspended for two sittings, asked to leave the House and escorted out by police, Mr Smith would not speak in detail but voiced his support for the Speaker, Dr Kendal Major.

“I wish not to comment save and except for saying that I fully support the actions of the Speaker as his deputy,” Mr Smith said.

“As relates to the actions of Dr Minnis, it was unfortunate that he was named but even more unfortunate that the entire opposition, save Mr Key, acted the way they did after he was named in front of a House filled with children. This is all I would say on the matter.”

The children in question were members of a Little League baseball team visiting parliament after taking part in a tournament overseas.
