BAIC office construction work 60% complete

CONSTRUCTION work on the new corporate office complex that will house the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation is about 60 per cent complete.

Yesterday, BAIC chairman Arnold Forbes toured the construction site to see the progress first hand.

He was joined by Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis, who also serves as Minister of Works and Urban Development.

The facility, located at the Soldier Road Industrial Park, was originally budgeted at $1 million, but this had doubled by the time of the ground-breaking ceremony back in July.

At that time, Mr Forbes revealed that the new complex would serve as the launchpad for an entire renovation of the run-down park.

“This park, which for too long has been an eyesore in this community, will be transformed in to a haven which will advance the plight of entrepreneurs who would like to start their own businesses,” he said.

“This park will be known for its vegetable gardens and mariculture farms, and it will also include tranquil green spaces.”

He added that the 10,000 square foot facility would rely on solar power and feature other energy-efficient infrastructure as well.
