POPULAR restaurant Señor Frogs wrote its own name and that of the Bahamas in the Guinness Book of Records by toppling more than 3,500 shot glasses yesterday.

For the past week, restaurant staff were attempting to topple the Longest Ever Domino Drop Shot in the world.

The past record was set on December 7, 2012 by Zheng Wen in Beijing, China, who successfully toppled 2,013 shots.

There was also an unofficial record set in Australia, not sanctioned by Guinness, of 3024 shots.

Hundreds of people gathered at Prince George Wharf to watch the world record broken. However, the goal of 4,000 shots was not met as one line stopped halfway through. However, Chester Williamson, partner at the well known party spot said the old record was broken the day before and on Thursday they were simply attempting to out do themselves.

“The good thing,” he said, “is we had so many practice runs that yesterday (Wednesday) we actually broke the world record and had it officially documented. We did over 3,500 so it is way past the official record, actually past any record, documented or not.

“We are still happy with today’s results though. We had such a nice showing of love from the public and a great turnout. It is reflective of the commitment we have to the people of the Bahamas and our patrons have for us. We just can’t thank them enough.”

The record breaking event was a part of the restaurant’s tenth anniversary in New Providence.

The shots were lined on a specially made track, with thousands of half-full beer mugs.

When the first shot was pushed into the first mug, it set off a chain reaction of cascading glasses and a record number of drop shots.

Bernadette Christie, wife of Prime Minister Perry Christie, sounded the horn for the first glass to be toppled.

The idea, according to Señor Frogs manager Arturo Salas, was to do something spectacular to commemorate the relationship between the franchise and the Bahamas.
