Much ado about nothing

EDITOR, The Tribune.

No one in their right mind will challenge that the new science of stem cells has an enormous potential for healing which was impossible previously but.....
I listened carefully to the positions and arguments put forward by most of the MPs last week and was disturbed that a medical doctor would suggest that if The Bahamas established within new legislation the legal practice of stem cell therapy this single fact would assist the majority of Bahamians.

The MP mentioned that he personally for his son had gone to Panama for therapy so I went online to seek the cost of such treatment.
The basic price level which is Panama, I certainly suggest here the costs will be much higher, starts at around $10,000.00 US and goes up and up $20-30- 40,000.00 and more depending on the therapy and that does not include the cost of an hotel, airfare.

I suggest to the MP, a doctor of medicine, that stem cell will be out of the reach of the average Bahamian so his theory of the potentials is false.

Further a clinic in Panama was established six years ago... since then they have treated 1,600 patients – hmm Mr MP’s that will fill all the hotels of Grand Bahama instantly and we will be building new ones to take care of the need?

Shakespeare would say: Surely this is much ado about nothing!
