FREEPORT - A 49-year-old woman was killed in a traffic accident in East Grand Bahama, pushing the island’s traffic fatality count to five on Monday.

Police are withholding the victim’s identity, but The Tribune understands that the deceased is believed to be Keva Pickstock.

The accident occurred just east of the College of the Bahamas Northern campus on the Grand Bahama Highway.

ASP Kenwood Taylor, officer in charge of the Traffic Division, said the victim – a passenger in the vehicle – died at the scene.

He said the driver lost control of the vehicle and went on the northern side of the street where she encountered some pine trees.

“The vehicle overturned and the passenger was ejected from the vehicle,” ASP Taylor said. “Officers responded and found her unresponsive and she succumbed at the scene of the accident.”

The body was removed from the scene by police officers and morticians of Yager Funeral Home.

Although police investigations are continuing into the incident, preliminary investigations indicate that speed was a factor in the accident.

“We would like to use this opportunity to sensitize members of the public to drive with care, to use seatbelts; and refrain from using cellphones and texting while driving,” Mr Taylor said.
