Macedonia wins titles

Macedonia won the title in both the 15-and-under and 19-and-under divisions, while Men of Vision took the men’s crown as the Baptist Sports Council pulled the curtain down on its 2013 Basketball Classic at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday.

The three titles came against Eagles Nest.

In successfully defending their title, Macedonia pulled off the only two-game sweep as they denied pennant winning Eagles Nest the first title in their 15-and-under best-of-three.

Macedonia won the clincher 33-31 as Troy Marshall scored a game high 11 points to earn the most valuable player award. Shamar Burrows had 10 and Kendrick Charlton chipped in with eight.

In the loss, Densil Gray scored eight.

In the 19-and-under division, pennant winning Macedonia dethroned Eagles Nest in a series that went the distance.

Macedonia won the clincher 34-25 as Livigi Forbes scored 10 to pick up the MVP honours. James Rolle, Rondon Swaby and William Rigby all helped out with six. In the loss, Alvano Miller scored a game high 12.

Eagles Nest took game two 48-43 as Alvano Miller and Teneas Mackey both led the attack with 13 and Dario McKenzie had 11. In the loss, Shaquille Fernander scored 11, Livigi Forbes had seven and Van Hutchinson six.

Macedonia, however, opened the series with a 43-39 victory, thanks to Van Hutchinson’s game high 18 points. Delroy Grandison had 11, Shaquille Fernander seven and Rondon Swaby six. In the loss, Alvano Miller scored 13.

Men of Vision also had to go the distance before they regained their men’s title. In the clincher, Men of Vision knocked off Eagles Nest 39-29 as Eugene Bain scored a game high 23 points to earn the MVP award. Bernard Bonaby scored nine and Cruz Simon added six.

In the loss, Kenneth Pratt scored 10 and Mark Taylor had nine.

In game two, Men of Vision won 51-30 behind Eugene Bain’s 19 points. Bernard Bonamy had 16 and Cruz Simon added 15. For the losers, Christoff Stuart had a game high 20 points.

Eagles Nest pulled off game one 62-59 as Kenneth Pratt scored a game high 30 points. Alvano Miller added 19. In the loss, Eugene Bain scored 24 points, Ian Pinder had 14 and Jason Mitchell chipped in with 12.

The BSC will now prepare for its cycling and volleyball classics in June.
