A Tribute to Basil Neymour

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Basil Neymour was a great Androsian who loved and cared for his people. He was my teacher at Calabash Bay All Age School. He was different as most of the other teachers did not allow you to come first in the class if you were not from Fresh Creek or Calabash Bay.

Basil, his siblings and first cousins, including the late Al Jarrett, was an example that would have done well and survived even though they had single parents or no living parents, grew up with their grandmother, a disciplinarian, who we all called aunt Leila.

Basil resigned as a teacher, left home and became a great road builder. Two of the outstanding roads are the one between Staniard Creek and Calabash Bay which lasted 40 years and is just now needing repairs. The other is the East West Highway. It is my opinion that as a great Androsian we should put aside politics and mourn his death as a great Road Builder. Former student of Mr Basil Neymour.
