'The Willie Lynch Syndrome'

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I am not a racist and most of my other qualities are good, if I may say so. It is now obvious to me, however, that the Willie Lynch Syndrome is very much alive and well in The Bahamas. Back in the day, over in the USA, a black man was usually used by whites to destroy or discredit other blacks.

The most famous and fabled one was known as Willie Lynch.

Historically, here in our wonderful nation, blacks seem to have a gross phobia about successful and opinionated black individuals.

I am able to speak from personal experience. When I was privileged to practice law, I dominated the criminal defence bar.

Without bragging, I easily earned $100,000 or more per month while the majority of the bar was obliged to eke out a living.

This success, of course, attracted many detractors and even to this very day, now that I am by acclamation the number one rated radio talk show host, some of them are still nipping at my heels.

Some say that I brag too much.

Others who are, clearly, deluded or suffering from dementia say that I have a genetic defect.

Fortunately, however, it is what it is and the haters are free to mire in their hatred.
The Hon Leslie O Miller (PLP-Tall Pines), Executive Chairman at BEC, is a no nonsense people person; a highly successful businessman and the consummate professional.

As a result, many hate him while others are intensely jealous of his hard earned achievements.

While embroiled in negotiations with the BEC union and while attempting to bring rationalisation to the management and policies at that corporation, internal leaks of who owes what on electrical bills were made public.

Miller’s name and that of his family owned businesses were splattered to the electronic and print media as if they would have committed a crime.

There are many individuals who pose as trade unionists and upright Christian individuals who are self admitted felons and convicts. Some of these same infidels are seeking to derail the stellar performance of the Hon Leslie O Miller at BEC.

It is a phenomenon of the highest order in The Bahamas that when you reach out to rehabilitate and uplift a fellow Bahamian that he/she will be the very first Negro to turn on you.

Yes, fellow Bahamians, the Willie Lynch who lived in the USA may well be dead, but his Bahamian heirs are very much alive and well.

The detractors say that Miller and his family were wrong to have paid their utility account/s at BEC with $100,000 in cash. I would not have done it that way.

I would have simply purchased a cashier’s cheque and handed it over to the BEC’s accounts department.

For the detractors to suggest, however, as they are assiduously doing, that that money may have come from “suspected or criminal sources” is stupidity of the highest order.

They are pure cowards, politically.

If they have evidence of anything negative or criminal on the part of Miller and his hard working family, say so publicly and clearly.

I assure you that a defamation law suit would immediately be filed and prosecuted.

The PM has been urged by certain unionists, with very colourful antecedents, to fire Miller or demand his immediate resignation.

The PM is many things to many people, but he certainly is not a fool.

Miller is the man for BEC at this time and should remain in place.

To force him out, when he has done nothing to impugn the reputation or capacity of BEC would be tantamount to political suicide by the PM and, by extension, the PLP.

Willie Lynch lives on and he/she has again, reared his/her ugly head.

Of, course, I have absolutely no doubt that there are hidden forces both within the opposition ranks and selected portions of the media who are salivating for Miller’s political head. They will, however, salivate and gyrate in vain.

To God then, in all things, be the glory.
