Union chief's chauvinism

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I was amazed by the disparaging and chauvinistic comments made by BEC Union chief Paul Maynard with respect to the proposed constitutional amendments on gender equality.

His description of our women’s marriage prospects, be they home grown or foreign, as “clowns, lackluster, shiftless, trifling negroes” is insulting to both Bahamian and foreign men.

Mr Maynard is obviously also in favour of arranged marriages as his assertion that his daughter and granddaughter cannot be trusted to make their own decisions as to whom they would marry further highlights his level of chauvinism.

It would appear that despite their frequent verbal altercations, he and his boss Leslie Miller have much in common after all.

does the bec union have a horse in that race?

the issues are completely irrelevant to the union's business.

i don't see the religious and civil rights kemosabes issuing statements about the blackouts, so this man should keep himself out of this discussion.

the reporter should have plain told him that the opinion he expressed was that of a private citizen.

Is the bec union head for or against the carnival?

Mr: Maynard has a right to his opinion the same as Ian Mabon. It is my hope that Ian will remain amazed. and perhaps he will reconsider his last rites and burial of the Bahamas.

More people need to call out the ignorant statements these public figures think it's ok to make.
