Not because Friday we had the FNM choosing their leadership, but it is accepted that the PLP Stalwart Councillors have a controlling vote and on the other side Meritorious Council Members have the same in an alleged democratic process to elect a leader.
Species (1) PLP Stalwart Councillors — the elevation is controlled by the leader so effectively once elected the first thing he, she, goes about is ensuring he puts his people in that position as they cannot be denied a vote on the leadership.
Species (2) FNM Meritorious Councillor members are no different from the PLP.
Any claim there is, therefore, any free form of democratic vote for a leader is ridiculous as in both cases unless there is a revolt the end is inevitable.
Both parties need to change this rule… only delegates elected from the rank and file of the constituency members should have the right to elect a leader. This will create a truly democratic process.
Now the challenge is out – let’s see which leader, Prime Minister Christie or leader of the Opposition Minnis, will comply? My bet is neither they like sure things and that is precisely what occurred on Friday afternoon in the case of Minnis and will occur for Christie in 2015.
The FNM is still controlled by Hubert Alexandra Ingraham, now that’s a sure bet!

Why don't politicians like transparency... because they don't want to go to jail! Most, not all, politicians are insecure individuals with weak constitutions.
This fact is a sad reflection on Governments in general, not just here, but worldwide. I grew up believing in Democracy and believing that individuals of high regard offered themselves for public service and that the average citizen had the opportunity to choose from among the best a country had to offer. That a constituency voted for the most well known and upstanding citizen from their neighbourhood. This is not so. More often than not we now vote for people who have never lived among us. Us humans have found a way to destroy democracy. Now we are only given the opportunity to vote for individuals that are assigned to our constituency. Even if you join a party, in order to get involved in the election process, you don't get a meaningful vote. So really there are only a few hundred (maybe a couple of thousand) people that get to choose who our MP's are going to be and who among them will run our country. THIS IS SAD!

No one should be allowed to run for a constituency that he or she doesn't live in and vote in.
