Enterprising approach to policing?

EDITOR, The Tribune.

If nothing else, Bahamians are a very enterprising people.

Certain members of our Royal Bahamas Police Force are no less enterprising than the rest of us, and having recently been brought in on the Haitian Chase, they are now stopping Haitians along the highways to see credentials.

If none is available, then they offer (insist) to take them home (in the Police Car) to get the necessary documents, and for their trouble, and in the privacy of the victim’s home, they invite a “small gratuity” for their trouble, and perhaps the use of the public’s gasoline.

All the while people are being murdered, robbed, raped, burglarised, etc, and nary a police car available.

It’s Christmastime though, so this is all quite understandable and perhaps even acceptable in some circles of Bahamian life.

If the late, great, George Symonette was alive today, he might add some new lyrics to his wonderful Calypso rendering “Sponger Money” and it might go so.

“Go Cop Go,

Go Cop Go,

Go Cop, Go Cop, ya got Hyshun Money.

Hyshun Money never done, ya got Hyshun Money.”

Sad but true,
