Minister is the first tax course lecturer

The minister of financial services has kicked off a new taxation course with his lecture on ‘Fundamentals of Taxation’.

Ryan Pinder thus became the first lecturer on the Bahamas Institute of Financial Services (BIFS) Certification Programme in Taxation, a course jointly established with the Ministry of Financial Services.

“Tax policy for a country can be designed to accomplish a number of goals,” Mr Pinder told attendees.

“Many consider, and in many cases it is true, that tax policy is designed to provide necessary revenues to a government to support its operation.

“Although this is true, tax policy can and, in my opinion, should be used to advance economic development policies. We see this to be the case in a number of jurisdictions and tax laws.”

As the first lecturer, Mr Pinder shared his expertise as minister and a tax attorney, offering a wealth of knowledge to all participants. He spoke to and and dialogued with 17 professionals from both private and government agencies.
