MADIO MUNNINGS was just 17 when the music and entertainment scene got its hook in him. His passion for music came after a friend convinced him to write eight bars of lyrics and record over a computer microphone with a sock as the filter.

At first, he was sceptical about the idea of having others critique his work, but the laid-back distinct flow he was producing accompanied with vibrant beats intrigued the young man enough to continue with the endeavour.

Today Madio, known by his stage name “Mr Munnings”, has a music catalogue which includes songs such as “Everything”, “ Through The Fire” and the introspective tune “Myself”.

“Before age 17 I was an avid listener of music, especially hip hip. 2009 would have been the year that I recognised and acknowledged music as a gift. From then to now my music career has been a steady progression,” said Madio.

He said his most recent projects are testaments to his growth as an artist and as an individual in general. Life’s journey has inspired him to speak on themes such as self-reliance and the importance of developing character and inner strength, he sad. This is especially reflected in some of his recent work.

Pursuing music full-time, Madio said his ultimate goal for his career is to generate enough interest to make music a viable stream of income. Once the listener finds something that is personally valuable to themselves within the music, Madio said the resulting support and success of his work will be a just by-product.

“There is definitely a market for Bahamian musicians, but markets have to be created. What creates markets? Individuality/originality and a stellar product of value will create a demand for the product. There is no shortage of great Bahamian artists shopping a quality product. Once proper traction is achieved and artists are in position to gain global exposure the Bahamian artists will most certainly have their own lane within the music industry,” he told In Ya Ear.

Madio has been featured on songs by several popular Bahamian artists. He has also completed multiple projects prior to investing in the technology to make his music a reality. Madio said many of his projects were never officially released, as they served more as an opportunity to perfect his craft before offering the world an official album.

His plan is to utilise his ambition, will power and mind to expand his potential to the fullest.

Madio said every person who has mentored or inspired him would have done so at a crucial point in his development and evolution. He said mere presence was essential in assisting him along this path and to name just one person as the most influential would be an insult to the others.

Madio’s work can be found on various social media platforms. On Youtube, where he recently debuted the video for his new single titled “Laying Low”, persons can search for MisterMunnings. For Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Sound Cloud, interested persons can search Mr Munning$. His official website, mrmunnings.com, also gives a more in-depth look at the artist and his music.

“As far as feedback goes for my music, it’s been very balanced, which is great. The criticism has been constructive, which is very necessary to neutralise the praise so that an artist doesn’t become delusional about their work. For the remainder of 2014 I plan to build and maintain a relationship with my target audience, gaining their trust through consistency. Once this is achieved the momentum from the followers of my movement will propel the movement to monetisation. After this it’s simple, expansion,” said Madio.
