Man shot dead as he unloaded his car

A MAN was shot in front of his home in the Cowpen Road area last night as he unloaded items from his car, police said.

Residents of the area heard gun shots shortly after 7pm and when they looked outside they saw the victim lying on the ground, police said.

“It appears as though he arrived home and was taking items from his vehicle and he was shot,” Chief Superintendant Clayton Fernander said last night.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said robbery could be a motive for the killing but they are not ruling out any possibility.

Police have not released the victim’s identity but The Tribune understands he is Holland Major Sr. The victim is believed to be in his late 40s.

Last night’s shooting brought the year’s murder count to 104, according to The Tribune’s records.

Major’s killing came a day after beautician Carmin Jean was stabbed to death just hours before her 22nd birthday.

Jean was stabbed to death during a domestic dispute with her boyfriend late on Sunday night.

According to police the 30-year-old suspect, who is now in police custody, attempted to take his own life after Jean was stabbed five times.

According to reports, shortly before 9pm, Jean was involved in an argument with her boyfriend at their home on Alfred Way off Winders Terrace.

She was stabbed twice in the upper back, once in the right shoulder, once in the left shoulder and once in the abdomen, The Tribune was told.
