FRUSTRATED Eastern Road users, unhappy that their complaints over a large pothole on the main thoroughfare in eastern New Providence are being ignored by the Ministry of Works, have stepped up their campaign to get it filled in and repaired.

Last week, one person took to spelling out the problem by painting a red outline around it, an arrow pointing to it and the word “HOLE”, as much to warn approaching drivers as a less-than-subtle hint to the ministry.

Residents claim “several” messages have been left with the authorities about the hole, which is three feet long, 18 inches wide and up to four inches deep. It has been dubbed “Blackbeard’s Gorge” given its location on the westbound lane of Eastern Road, just west of Tower Heights and below Blackbeard’s Tower.

The pothole, however, is not on the same scale as the “crater” or “sinkhole” that appeared on nearby Sans Souci Hill Road and was repaired by Bahamas Striping earlier this year after the company’s owner, Atario Mitchell, personally responded to a post on Facebook highlighting the size of the problem.
