Awards and titles

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Awards and titles? Have we really gone stupid?

Traditionally on The Queen’s birthday and at New Year’s the Prime Minister of a Commonwealth country like The Bahamas, especially as we accept Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth as our sovereign monarch, will award civil orders to deserving citizens for various achievements.

Since 2012, the Prime Minister clearly feels there is no one that deserves recognition, except for a testimonial banquet where he can make a long speech.

Queen Elizabeth honours 2012 - New Year 2013 - Birthday honours 2014 - New Year’s 2014 – bush crack and none given.

Now on January 6th. Cabinet issues a release that there is a gaggle of attorneys been given the silk of a Queen’s Counsel.

So I can only presume the Prime Minister did this as the VAT-able fees these learned people can charge will be go positive to the revenue collection that it is worthwhile… a QC charges premium fees for their services so 7.5 per cent on their premium bill is no cheese.

But what about Ms Rolle - Mr Edgecombe - Ms Knowles - Mr Roberts, Mrs Kelly and the hundreds of well meaning citizens across this Bahamaland who have done so much nation building clearly the Prime Minister doesn’t care and refuses to reward them for services to the state, shame!
