A MAN caught red-handed sexually assaulting a woman was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment for rape and armed robbery yesterday.

Wencent Paul, 19, of Okra Hill appeared before Justice Bernard Turner facing life imprisonment on both charges stemming from the December 7, 2014, midnight attack of a woman in her home.

On the day in question, police received a report of a sexual assault in progress at a home in the inner city. When officers arrived at the scene, they arrested a male caught having sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent after robbing her of cash at gunpoint.

Paul, alias Vincent Paul, pleaded guilty to the charges when formally arraigned before Justice Turner and reappeared in court yesterday for sentencing.

The judge took into account the convict’s age and lack of antecedents prior to the convictions as well as the seriousness of the offences and the manner in which the crime was committed.

Justice Turner found that ten years’ imprisonment for each offence was appropriate and ordered them to run concurrently from March 6, the date of conviction.

Paul served three months on remand prior to pleading guilty and the time was subtracted from the ten-year sentence.
