The Bahamas Electrical Workers Union’s (BEWU) president said yesterday he was quite satisfied with the information received from the new Bahamas Electricity Corporation Board (BEC), although the unions have yet to meet with its new manager or see the business plan.

Paul Maynard said: “The Board has met with the president of the managers union and myself, and they are keeping us up to date on the process going forward.

“We are quite satisfied with the information that they have given us. As soon as PowersSecure gets here they will sit with us and go through the business plan.” Mr Maynard said he expects that to happen in early December.

On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis presented the Electricity Bill 2015, The Utilities and Competition Amendment Bill 2015 and the Electricity Rate Reduction Bond Bill 2015 to Parliament, which will enable reforms to the country’s energy sector.

On July 22, a Transition Services Agreement (TSA) was signed with PowerSecure to take over the management and operations of BEC’s new operating subsidiary, Bahamas Power & Light.

PowerSecure’s five-year business plan for its management was developed during July-September 2015.

Clinton Minnis, the  Bahamas Electrical Managers Union (BEMU) president, told Tribune Business yesterday he had just obtained copies of the Bills tabled in Parliament and would analyse them over the next several days.

The manager’s union is also waiting to meet with PowerSecure and get details of its business plan.
