Sudden storm floods parts of Nassau

http://youtu.be/5W-jzu7BHWg

A SUDDEN storm brought flash flooding to parts of New Providence on Sunday afternoon, with accompanying lightning forcing the abandonment of the Lucayan Cup beach soccer tournament at Malcolm Park.

The storm broke over the eastern end of the island around 4.30pm and a heavy downpour lasting for more than 40 minutes inundated roads in downtown Nassau and nearby areas.

At Malcolm Park, spectators who braved the rain had to leave their seats in the steel bleachers once the thunder and lightning began to crash. The match between the Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago had to be abandoned with pools forming on the sand pitch with Trinidad leading 5-3.

Is this a redemption of sorts for those accused of dropping the ball on hurricane Joaquins' preparation, response time and ample warnings?

I was in the Wulff/Claridge Road area and it was a disaster! Cars slowly driving about trying to find the least flooded streets; awful and the water was so high! Clean the drains PLEASE or put down some more, something!

Why???? So yall Bahamian people could start complaining again????

The last time that the government conducted major road works, everyone was upset and fussing at the FNM! Now yall asking them to put down drains.

Yall Bahamian people is something else. Just ain no pleasing yall.

So, should we evacuate parts of Nassau and not have people live in those parts anymore? Global warming, you know...

Ask Deputy Leader Turnquest. According to him, that would seem reasonable. As sad as the situation is in the southern islands, the bahamas is lucky that storm didnt sit over Nassau. We would have been sent back to the stone age- the flooding alone would have been devastating.

Comrade Ohdrap4, how I remember Mr. Russell's Stop N' Shop, the Walmart of its day. That's a all but forgotten time when Father Allen's, Keith’s & The Hutch chicken spots gave Nassau Town, her beloved tastes of our first fast food experiences.
