Review of the Marriage Act of the Bahamas may be needed

 EDITOR, The Tribune

IN THE lead up to the referendum on gender equality there is a concern that one of the proposed Bills by its wording can lead to same sex marriage in the country.

This concern has been addressed by proponents saying that as marriage has been defined for the country there is no possibility of this outcome.

However, it may be necessary for the Marriage Act of The Bahamas to be reviewed.

A perusal of this Act, by attorneys addressing a church function on the proposed referendum, revealed that this Act does not give a definition of marriage as being a union between a man and a woman. In fact, marriage is not defined.

But, marriage is defined in the Maritime Marriage Act of 2011 as a “legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife”.

Does this mean that there is  presently a possibility of a same-sex marriage provided it is performed on land?

We already have given certain privileges to "common law" marriages ......... what is there for sissies not to be able to enjoy those same privileges if they can prove that they live as a common-law couple??????? .................. or can they just use existing laws like wills, deed polls and power of attorney to establish a right to own/inherit property???????? IDK

I am voting Yes to number four. so that those who are so, so holy can have something to run their mouths about. A country where adultry and fornication is all right. and more children are born out of wed lock. is stuck on same sex marriage,? Sissies as one calls them are human also. And they are Bahamians.

Who is richer: Lady Sharon or Lady Holo??????? ......... and what about the other stuck up elitist women who are out there fronting for Perry in this Referendum crusade?????

Be that as it may ..............can they speak to the average Bahamian woman who has no one-man relationship, three baby-daddies, no job or savings, little independence, overweight, probably has at least one chronic non-communicable disease, likes jungliss music, spends ten hours online per day, expert spinners, very tingsy and with minimal public school education ?? ........ thats the majority of Bahamian women under 50 who will be voting in June
