Are we forgotten?

EDITOR, The Tribune.

We the residents of the Bozine Drive and Knowles Drive off Tonique Williams Darling Highway are very much still in awe and await your response to the land deal between the Government of The Bahamas, Land Co and the ‘Bozine Town’ residents.

It has been close to seven years with no response whatever from the former governing party (the Free National Movement) to this present governing party (the Progressive Liberal Party)!

We are consistently being told by Members of Parliament for the area that the land issue between Land Co and ‘Bozine Town’ Residents is simply a mere swopping of land.

Furthermore, we are informed that a swopping of land had been arranged by The Government and Land Co. It was stated that a parcel of land in Abaco was given to Land Co in exchange for the land in ‘Bozine Town’.

Due to no response from both former and present government the residents of the area then hired a lawyer Mr Milton Evans (now magistrate) to represent us.

However, after paying him for his service we were later told that the final word rests in the hands of The Government. It’s almost election time again, we will not be fooled by false promises, false hope and failure to follow through. The Urban Renewal office for our area is a slow show and partial built; approximately 20 per cent of the elderly residents are now deceased.

There remains a handful of our cherished older residents, including all of our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and 3rd generations of family still awaiting the resolution to this land dispute and to receive land ownership documentations. The majority of residents have been living here for at least 40 years with no problems, or harassments from anyone.

Honourable Member, you are our representative so please speak on our behalf again. It seems no one even cares about our plight.

What is the hold up? Why the long wait? Decisions were already made and agreed to, so why not issue the documents promised?

You (The Government) are always making headlines on ZNS, Cable 12 and even JCN, so say something on the matter and be precise with the date for our papers or are we just seen as a polling division and yesterday’s news?

Life goes on for you Honourable Member and maybe you have to be in our shoes to understand how we feel... Forgotten!

FORGOTTEN
