Election silly season

EDITOR, The Tribune.

They call the run-up to an election, the silly season. Well it seems we might have gone considerably past that, listening and reading comments in the media.

The story on Bishop Solomon Humes, in reference to the Panama Papers, was cruel to say the least. Mr Humes worked as a Trust Officer, like many Bahamians and foreigners.

This comment on demonstration at Cable Beach - to the ignorant IDB meetings, are famous for attracting demonstrators, as are any international fora. So we now can demonstrate only when the “gods” say we can. This group had Police permits. So the Commissioner is unpatriotic?

The dump fires and smoke - well when the dump in on fire the next time, one hopes the Chairman of the PLP will go and sleep a night or two at a PLP supporter’s home, in Jubilee Gardens and see just how bad it is.

The Prime Minister and his lost friend Mr. Izmirlian Sarkis - well blow me down... certainly that once upon a time friendship, was blown away with the quote of suggesting one was a little off his head, but this story and the comments of the Prime Minister is so crazy that I have to ask - the sequence of dates - Mr Izmerlian Proposal “Hail Mary” letter to Chair of EXIM original was dated January 11, 2016. EXIM’s instructions to Colliers International “to seek buyers” were circulated on March 15, 2016. That alone tells me that EXIM rejected Mr Izmerlian’s offer. Why doesn’t the Prime Minister’s esteemed adviser see that? How embarrassing sending a letter from OPM to the Chair of EXIM.

We are a year away from an election - what will it be like closer to then?

Cannot miss - Vision 2040 - thanks for confirming that successive governments, have totally failed the people of The Bahamas. I suspect that this is very clever political distraction of zero meaning.

Few governments are able to complete, what they promise in a single Budget year, let alone 30-years! Who plans 30 years out anyway? Anyone saw Hon. Hubert Minnis at College of Bahamas launch?

The Pointe Hotel - how could the Special Planning Committee, of the city of Nassau approve the external design, of what will be such a sore thumb in our historic city? My fear is what is to come if they approved that. Desperate decision, so who cares!
