Bias towards Butler-Turner

EDITOR, The Tribune

IT WAS interesting to read the lead story in your business section on April 19 about FNM MP Loretta Butler-Turner calling for the Christie administration to create a special envoy to look after Baha Mar.

I agree that appointing a special ambassador to represent the government on the talks is a good idea. I also agree with Butler-Turner that the government’s decision to liquidate the mega resort was a major blunder that is continuing to cause misery for many Bahamians.

What I cannot help but notice, however, is that these and other ideas in Butler-Turner’s statement are nothing new. Many of these same ideas have been suggested by FNM Leader Hubert Minnis in public statements he has made in the recent past.

Your failure to treat the ideas with the same prominence when they come from Dr Minnis is proof of your favouritism toward Butler-Turner.

It is your right to favour Butler-Turner over Minnis but it is not your right to give her credit for ideas that are not her own and then splash them over your front page.

If you find the courage and professionalism to treat the FNM leader with fairness, maybe it will become clear that he has some really great ideas. Maybe you will even give him a chance to tell Bahamians how he plans to change the country for the better.

Mr. Rolle, perhaps it is a case of Loretta Butler-Turner being able to convey the message more effectively.
