Sears brings a glimmer of light

EDITOR, The Tribune

FOLLOWING the shambolic Free National Movement Convention one thing was pellucidly clear: neither the present leader or the aspirant has the wherewithal to lead this country.

Indeed the fire is no longer burning in many souls and the once mighty torch now has the sizzle of a damp firecracker.

Because of all the missteps of the Progressive Liberal Party the 2017 election seemed to be the FNM’s to lose. Unfortunately they seem to have achieved this before the first vote is cast. To my mind, despite the utterings of the political pundits, Dr Rollins was the only parliamentarian who emerged with any credibility.

Perhaps after the next election Dr Minnis will find out that his seeming objective to fashion the FNM in the image of Perry Christie’s PLP was a dismal failure, especially when the seats show that the only ones won would be those bequeathed by that section of the party he chose to diss. And, if he has any discernment he will recognise that the country already has a dancer and is now seeking a visionary.

Happily, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the despondent, with the announcement by Alfred Sears that he will challenge the present Leader of the PLP at Convention.

Should he win, I can envisage the party attracting many independents and despondent FNMs.

PS: in a country with a high degree of lawlessness, it is frightening to hear members (I refuse to use the word Honourable) stating loudly that they will not obey a court order. How does that encourage the ordinary citizen to follow the laws of the land?

I cannot believe how many Bahamians are falling for this scam.

There is no leadership challenge folks. Come now. Perry owns the stalwarts, Sears knows this.

This is nothing more than a show. This is to prove that the PLP can handle a leadership challenge without falling into the nasty gutter like the thuggish FNM party.

That is all this is. Please stop falling for obvious scams Bahamas.....

And Miss Thompson I'm shocked. Never thought you'd fall for a scam like this....

I couldn't agree more. They put a lot of stories out to get public reaction before making decisions. Case in point 2 sissies challenging the constitution through court to get married - note that you haven't heard a boo-squeak since.

If there is any "truth" to this latest saga at least we do indeed have a glimmer of hope. If the PLP changes leaders, I have no doubt they would be more attractive to the voting public afte that fiasco of a convention that the FNM had.

Ms. Thompson, I always followed your letters and thought that they were well laid out. But my God! No disrespect, but you must be losing it! What light are you talking about???????? You must be talkin' bout one a dem flash lights with the dead battery. Please wake up and smell the coffee. Politicians like Mr. Sears are no longer valid. We don't need em and we certainly don't want em. When will we as Bahamians demand serious change????? SMDH!
