Christmas promotions by banks

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Pre-run up to Christmas the majority of the banks had promotions encouraging people to take out loans to meet, their words, to pay for vacations, purchasing for Christmas etc… items clearly the person did not have the money in the bank to use.

At a time where thousands are in distressed positions on their home mortgages, I am far from apologetic that I find this sort of public relations as questionable.

In at least one case where one of the directors is still the only person who does not know the correct pronunciation of his business and in the past has lectured all of us not to borrow for stupid ideas and for unnecessary purchases here he is promoting a PR campaign/giveaway.

Did these giveaways all have Ministry of Tourism approvals which is required? No bank should be encouraging people to borrow so that their children can have some expensive toy - iPad or a vacation and use child-actors in their TV advertisement promoting such a concept.

Where is the Central Bank?

Have you noticed if you try to transfer money from one bank to another, not the same bank, it takes four-five days? Isn’t there electronic transfer in place?

This writer sure wishes to know as I am tired of this stupidity and no reaction from The Central Bank.

Did any of the mega promotions from the numbers people have Ministry of Tourism approvals - it is rather a waste of time the minister making an after the fact statement in parliament. Did they minister? If not, will they be prosecuted?
