Calling on real FNMs to settle differences

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Please be kind enough to allow me a few lines to address those “True FNMs”, and “Disgruntled Long Island FNM” that wrote concerning the state of the FNM Council, on January 14 and 21 this month.

Firstly I would like to advise that, under the Free National Movement’s constitution, there is such a thing as a non-voting convention. As a matter of fact we had one at Poinciana Arena that was very successful in that we, through a televised pledge campaign, raised quite a bit of money.

Secondly, a very valuable experience encountered while employed at Navios Corporation in 1964. A co-worker, who shall remain nameless, decided to resign from the corporation and had another co-worker write his letter of resignation. Upon receipt of this letter by my department head (John Re), he summoned me to his office. His question to me was if I thought this fellow was capable of such penmanship. My answer was a profound no. It came to pass that the employee, for an extra month’s pay, ratted on, etc, was promptly fired. Which shows that persons who allow themselves to be used are unfamiliar with fidelity.

Since that encounter, I have read thousands of books on just about every topic and have found that letters, etc, are similar to fingerprints. Case in point: many scholars are of the opinion that the entire works of one William Shakespeare were actually written by Sir Francis Bacon. Why? All of Bill’s children were illiterate .

Now fast forward to January 14, 2016. That letter in The Tribune had the fingerprints of several persons, one ignorant, another filled with hate, another envy, another mischief, in all about six that I can identify.

All of these characters are calling for a convention, yet not one of them has told me that they do not believe the last convention represented the wide majority. So, what difference will another convention do? Are they going to change the rules? In order to do that they will have to change the constitution (hardly likely).

Another point that our chairman has not pointed out is the fact that in accordance with our constitution we should call a convention every two years. My personal take on that issue is the fact that we will need every dime at our disposal to fight the 2017 General Election.

Now for the sake of thousands of real FNMs (and the country), I ask those adversaries to put all of their egos aside, have an earnest meeting with the leaders of both groups, settle differences with a path leading to 2017 and beyond.

This is the real wish of the majority of Bahamians.
