Gray’s violent rhetoric

EDITOR, The Tribune.

MICAL MP Alfred Gray’s challenge to Fort Charlotte MP Dr Andre Rollins ‘‘to join him outside’’ Parliament whenever he is ready may have been amusing to those present in the House, but to the thousands of responsible, law-abiding denizens of Nassau, it underscored the gratuitous violence gripping the beleaguered capital.

While I believe Gray’s threat has a hollow ring to it, seeing that it is highly implausible that he was serious in engaging in a physical altercation with Rollins, it should have never been emitted in the first place.

It came at a most inopportune time in our nation which just recorded 149 murders in 2015.

Gray should have been reprimanded and his words expunged from the House records.

But I have a deep intuition that Prime Minister Perry Christie is apprehensive at the thought of having to rein in senior Cabinet ministers such as Gray and Co.

The RBPF never tires of proclaiming the utmost importance of conflict resolution. Many of the homicides committed in Nassau stems from nasty verbal and physical altercations.

Many of our young men do not know how to settle their differences in an amicable manner. Hence the exceptionally high homicide rate in Nassau.

Gray’s violent rhetoric runs counterproductively to whatever crime fighting initiatives the PLP regime in conjunction with the RBPF have implemented. As one of the oldest MPs in the House, Gray should have known better.
